Happy 2006!

Time really flies. Today is the last day of year 2005 already. Looking back at this year, I must say that it has been a great year. Here is a recap.

2005 started with an accident at around 13th mile. We spent the night by the roadside and at the police station.

I spent most of my time idling until end of April when I enrolled into INTI, taking up a diploma course in electrical and electronics engineering.

I started my first semester in INTI with much excitement. The first camp I went was to Gua Batu Maloi. It was a very deadly adventure into the cave. It’s not like the biggest cave in the world, so sometimes we had to crawl to get through. Then I joined rural service. That was the most interesting journey that I have ever been on. All those training, meetings and time spent with the 22nd rs members, and the 7 days spent at Chendrong, I can be sure I won’t forget those memories for a very long time.

The second semester at INTI was a short semester. Plenty of stuff happened during this period. First, I had to go back to Kuching for MAS written test. Then after passing the written test, I came back for the interview. After my final exams, I came back to Kuching and I got news that I got selected for MAS and had to go for medical checkup. My happiness was short-lived after not getting a timely response from them. I was about to give up hope when the unexpected happened. Refer to my last post for details.

Other happenings this year include losing my phone, my virginity girlfriend, the London bombings, getting caught by police, participating in both illegal and legal racing, running a 12 hour relay race, retaining my INTI scholarship. I also launched my new website (this website), got a new mp4 player, downloaded lots of pirated stuff off the internet, had wifi fun in KLIA, went Sematan for a day trip, went damai for a day trip, helped my dad move new factory.

How long does it take for 5 people to finish 1 cup of pepsi? Roughly 2 seconds. Don’t worry, IKEA has free refills =)

Also spent a fair amount of time on my computer, mainly installing the Mac OSX, doing PIC programming, web programming, computer security research, watching porn.

Summarizing a whole year into one post is not easy. Go read my archives for more details.

Now that I’m done with the year 2005, let’s move on to 2006. I have a few new year resolutions:

  1. Gain weight
  2. Make realistic promises
  3. Be more patient
  4. Refrain from having a girlfriend
  5. Get laid
  6. Make something spectacular
  7. Do something spectacular
  8. I’ll think of more new year’s resolution later

So instead of having a crazy new year’s eve like last year, I’m now chillin’ out at my grandma’s house, enjoying the peace and tranquility. Life is good. Happy new year everyone! Continue reading

MAS LAME programme part 2

Seems like my blog has been filled with some irrelevant information. So I’m here to clear a few things up.

Two days ago, I was stuffing my bags into the car, waiting to go back to Inti Nilai to enrol for the third semester. Suddenly, my cousin comes out of the house and told me that someone was on the phone looking for me.

Knowing him, who’s very prone to tricks, I thought this was some joke he was trying to play on me. How else could anyone get the phone number of the place I was staying.

I picked up the phone and someone asked if I was “Chen”. I said yes and I was wondering who was talking on the other end.

Mini on tow.

What I heard next was totally unexpected. She said, “When are you going to collect your MAS offer letter?”

I said, “Huh?”

New pair of shoes.

Then she explained that I had been offered the MAS scholarship to undergo training for the LAME programme! I asked her why I wasn’t informed earlier, now that I was in KL and was just hours away from enroling for the third semester in INTI.

Going to Nilai.

Apparently they just got the letter today and it’s waiting for me back in Kuching. So what does that mean?

I’m coming back to Kuching!! On the 2nd or the 3rd. Home sweet home =) Oh yes, please ignore the previous posts about the MAS scholarship thing.

Working my way through KL

I have been around KL for the past few days. I know how to get around from Bandar Utama to the KTM and to the Pudu bus station. So with that, I can get to almost everywhere in Semenanjung.

It rained today. We went to play football at a nearby community center. It wasn’t a very smooth morning. First, we weren’t allowed to play at the tennis court (which by the way has got goal posts meant for futsal), then some lady tried to cheat my foreign cousin by selling him a can of 100 plus for RM7. He didn’t buy it of course (pun intended) and he went to ask the manager. In the end, he got it for RM1.70

If you have read the papers today, you will come across a news about a foiled RM1 million robbery at 1 Utama at 7:15pm yesterday. A guard was shot. I was at there at 6pm and it’s walking distance from where I live. But unfortunately, I was out to dinner at that time so I missed all the action.

Speaking about dinner, I had fried pig intestines just now. It tastes great. Going back to INTI tomorrow. Continue reading

Daylight robbery

I went out on what seemed to be a normal day to Midvalley. I bought a Nike shoe to replace my old torn one. It was great, at RM169. It will last me for the next 3 years. Then me and my brother and my cousin went to the Pudu station to buy bus ticket. And then that’s when the robberies started.

My brother wanted to buy a Banzai car magazine. The problem is, it costs RM34+. Then he saw the EXACT SAME MAGAZINE AT THE EXACT SAME SHOP selling for RM12. But then we notice that the shop was not that stupid. It was $12, not RM12. But we decided to give it a shot. We got the magazine, went to the counter, and the guy typed in RM12. We paid and walked calmly away. We’ve just gotten a 50% plus discount for a UK magazine.

The 3 frogs.

Then we went to a phone shop. My brother’s T610 was dented so he wanted a new cover. The guy was selling for RM40, but we bargained it down to RM32. That wasn’t the robbery. This is: I saw the exact same card reader that I bought yesterday for RM29 selling for RM89 at this phone shop. I was looking at it carefully, and it’s exactly the same. I couldn’t find any difference, and that’s when the guy came. Read our conversation (translated from Chinese):

Shop guy: Looking for card reader ah?

Me: No, just looking. I bought this yesterday for RM29.

Shop guy: What price you want? I can discount for you.

Apparently he hasn’t got the hint that I ALREADY have a card reader and I don’t need one.

Shop guy: Come on, what’s your budget?

(He takes out a calculator and enters 89 on it)

Me: I bought the same thing for RM29 yesterday at Lowyat.

(He froze)

Shop guy: Where?

Me: Lowyat.

(End of conversation)

If you haven’t noticed, the interesting part is not where he froze. It seems like he wan’t paying attention to whatever I was saying.

This is how caring Malaysians are. This is an emergency escape at the KTM station at Midvalley. Just in case of emergency, you can escape fast.

Then we decided to take a break at McDonalds. We bought one curly fries. The cashier typed out RM0.53. My cousin was shell shocked. He turned to me and asked me to verify it. I looked at the price, quickly paid it, and went away. All I know, there’s nothing cheaper than RM1 in McDonalds. Small fries costs RM2.30. Go figure.
