Sorry for the lack of updates as I have been busy with an exam. I was on holiday last weekend in Melbourne and I managed to meet up with Janet for the afternoon in the CBD.

It was pretty cloudy and showers were expected.

We were forced to wait at this station because someone decided to do something bad, something really bad.

Trains on Saturdays and Sundays don't come as often as they do during the weekdays. So plan your trip carefully with the train timetable or on metlinkmelbourne.com.au. And you can't get the weekend savers from the ticket machines. You must buy them from the ticket counter so if you're too early and the counters are not open yet, you need to get a daily ticket which will cost you AUD10.10 (2009 price).

Had a filling Japanese lunch at Sushi Sushi at Melbourne Central. They have sushi rolls so big that AUD5 will buy you 2 rolls that will be enough for lunch.

The big chess set on Lygon Street.

Lygon street is famous for Italian restaurants, but it is famous also for it's gelato ice cream. I did mention before to try it if you're here. Although the weather was close below 20 that afternoon, the gelato was too irresistible. They have many flavors like green tea, strawberry and many others. Definitely need to give it a try if you're in Melbourne. Just take a northbound tram on Swanston street and stop over at City Baths station located on Victoria street. Then walk along Victoria street until you reach Lygon street.

Green tea and I forgot what the other flavor was. They have quite a selection. I had the strawberry one this time.

A stretched Hummer H2 limo as a wedding car. It had difficulty making tight turns.

Initially we planned to head to Fitzroy gardens but since Carlton gardens was much closer to Lygon street we went there instead. I missed my chance to pay the Melbourne Museum (which is at Carlton Gardens) another visit because of the lack of time. That will definitely top my to-do list the next time I'm here.

Spying on cute guys in the park with a 70-300mm. Tsk tsk tsk.

Chinatown spans across 2 blocks and they have the best yum cha place here, according to Janet.

After a Chinatown tour and getting lost in Myer, we took the train back from Melbourne central station because Janet had planned a BBQ and I was the fire starter. It was easier for her to stop at Huntingdale since it was Zone 1 and we skipped having to take a bus because Rob came and picked us up.

Huntingdale train station.

Since I was too busy with the BBQ, the rest of the photos were taken by Janet.

This is Rob. He shifts only when the engine rpm reaches the red line so it was an exciting ride.

I'm a big fan of sausages here because they just taste so good and the texture is just right.

The charcoal was of a different type. It was harder to start than the normal ones that we can find here in Malaysia. But once it was started it lasted very long. Long after we melted our last marshmallows.

Was supposed to head down to town to watch the Moomba Waterfest fireworks along the Yarra river but was too late when we finished the BBQ. I didn't bring along a tripod anyways.

Blockus is a very logical and interesting game. The main objective is to block your opponents so they don't have space left to put their remaining blocks.

The crowd. Clockwise from left: Eric, Wing (hidden behind Eric), Rob, Ben, Megan's bf, Megan, Rudi, Janet and me (hidden behind the camera).

Had some card games and wasn't long before it was midnight. Decided to call it a day and I bummed at Ben's place which was 1 minute's walk away.

Special thanks to Janet for taking some time off her ever hectic schedule to see me and for the wonderful BBQ. And not forgetting her friends and housemates who made the evening truly enjoyable. Was really a pleasure meeting all of you.

Next: Part 2.
